Challenge:
ShootNepal was undertaking a challenging but exciting project in building a rental platform for videography and photography equipment which also functioned as a marketplace for used camera gears. To design the platform, I conducted extensive market research by traveling throughout Kathmandu and visiting individuals and agencies providing rental services to understand the traditional rental system’s challenges and pain points.
Using the insights gathered from the research, I created a comprehensive design concept that prioritized user-friendliness, easy navigation, and intuitive search functions. A booking system was also developed to streamline the rental process, allowing users to easily reserve equipment and specify pickup and drop-off times while vendors (both individuals and agencies) also had authority to accept or decline the rental request. Additionally, the platform allowed sellers to list and sell their used camera equipment through the marketplace, with an interface that made the process straightforward.
Throughout the project, my team placed a strong emphasis on ensuring that the platform was accessible and user-friendly for both customers and vendors. User testing and feedback were incorporated into the design to improve the overall experience. We also designed an admin dashboard and analytics system that provided data on sales and rental activity, helping vendors optimize their listings and prices.
The product is currently in Phase-II of development after successful beta testing among a limited group of users, mainly comprising film students. More specific details and designs of the project cannot be shared due to the NDA I signed, nonetheless, I am proud of the work done by my team. ShootNepal’s unique features, including a marketplace for selling used camera equipment, are expected to revolutionize the traditional rental system in the country.
