Challenge:
I recently worked on a project to design a website for Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center (KTERC), one of the largest and oldest tea manufacturers in Nepal. Despite being a company functioning internationally, it treats its clients, customers and employees warmly, like a family and gives off a homely feeling. And their employees reciprocate the feeling even more. So, my challenge was to convey that essence on a digital platform.
More than technical and hard skills, this project tested my soft skills and empathy on a bigger scale. I had to create the same connection with the users through the website like it was at KTERC’s tea garden, factories and sales offices. I visited most of their facilities, did extensive UX research and interviews for user understanding, market research, and persona creation. It took me more than a month before I could sit on my work computer and start drafting the design in Figma.
To make the website stand out in a crowded market, I conducted thorough competitor research and created content that was tailored to the target audience. I also wrote all the copies and most of the contents of the website myself that highlighted the culture, mission and aesthetic of the company and its values.
We also conducted user testing within the employees of the company and gathered feedback to continually improve the design. In the end, I am proud of the final product that we delivered – a user-friendly, visually appealing website that effectively communicates the warmth and values of KTERC to its customers and stakeholders worldwide.
